Software Engineer (London or Portsmouth)

Wiggle’s team are enthusiastic developers who enjoy what they do. Amongst other practises, they use Pair Programming, TDD/BDD, Refactoring, and Continuous Integration, and actively review and tune our Agile process.

We are looking to recruit passionate and engaged software engineers. Rather than asking for a particular number of years with any given technology, or any specific academic credentials, we’re looking to find highly intelligent candidates with a range of experience from undergraduate to senior.

Primary responsibilities
  • Working with business stakeholders to identify business needs and spike and build solutions
  • Test-first software development in C#
  • Support and maintenance of business applications
  • Driving further acceptance and use of Agile, Open Source, and “clever” technology, including AJAX and social networking
  • Software Engineers at Wiggle are responsible for the full SDLC of all software systems in the company.

Experience

  • Agile software development methodology (XP, Scrum, etc.)
  • Object oriented design, design patterns (not just MVC!)
  • Heterogeneous platform architecture or service/message bus
  • .NET 2 or newer, & best practise tools: NHibernate etc.
  • At least one other development language: Java, Ruby, Python, PHP, etc.
  • AJAX and Web 2.0 technologies
  • RDBMS (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, ideally two of them)
  • Design & build of ecommerce systems
  • Integration with and migration from legacy systems
  • Bonus points for Linux
  • Bonus points for detailed experience with ecommerce subsystems: ERP, WMS, BI, MMS, etc. or some of the systems in use: SOA, OODBMS, memcached, CDN/DSA
  • Bonus points for Open Source contribution

Characteristics of the right individual
  • Hands-on code, web or Agile fanatic, able to demonstrate a real passion for software development -- in and outside work -- rather than just talking about it.
  • Strong understanding of benefits and value of Open and Linux platforms, but sympathy to pragmatic implications of inheriting a broad Microsoft stack.
  • Motivated and enthused by difficulty & challenge, coupled with a strong competitive nature to excel and be the best.
  • Good degree -- if one was obtained
  • The candidate may not hold an equivalent position currently – but might be ready to step up
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, mentoring (as appropriate), collaboration, planning & estimating

Systems Administrator (London)

The System Administrator is a key role at Wiggle, supporting the office and warehouse operations and ensuring the smooth provision of IT services 24/7. Both the business and the IT team are rapidly growing and dynamic candidates should have exciting opportunities to take on more responsibility. The role is in the IT & Operations team, reporting to the IT & Operations Manager.

Primary objectives and responsibilities
  • Providing proactive day to day management and support for Internet related infrastructure, including servers, routers, firewalls and backup systems, within a mission critical environment.
  • Managing, tracking and trouble-shooting issues, change controls, bespoke project roll-outs and live fault escalations.
  • Liaising with ISP for the monitoring & maintenance of hosting infrastructure that support the websites.
  • Maintaining a high level of availability of services and minimising the risk of exposure to system downtime through continual monitoring of key systems.
  • Improving process development, documentation and knowledge dissemination.
  • Provision of out of hours support.
  • Improving system & automating repetitive jobs.
  • Liaise closely with internal/external contacts to monitor and maintain current infrastructure while driving new technical projects forward.
  • Working with the developers to deploy application releases.

Experience required

  • Excellent capability with network routing, load balancers (Citrix) and switches, Intel-based server hardware, TCP/IP, DNS and other Internet related technologies: DHCP, VLANs, VPNs, firewalls, IPS/IDS
  • The ability to support Windows Server, Windows Desktop and Linux (Ubuntu) platforms to an excellent level
  • Able to manage databases running MS SQL Server 2003 - 2008, and MySQL
  • Experience with network routing, load balancers, configurations and protocols on Cisco routers and switches, and excellent with IOS
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, problem solving skills with strong attention to detail
  • VM Ware, Cacti, Nagios, Apache 2, IIS, Scripting (Perl, Python, PHP, Bash)
  • PBX, RSA, VoIP, ISDN, LES, WES, MPLS, Wi-Fi, EPOS, CCTV, clustering (MSSQL, MySQL, Windows), PDC, O/S, SMS, WMI, monitoring & escalation, new site setup, on-call, incident & emergency planning.
  • Bonus points for knowledge of Symantec Backup Solutions.
  • Bonus points for experience with FIM systems.
  • Bonus points for strong understanding of PCI-DSS compliance.

Software Engineer in Test/QA Engineer (London or Portsmouth)

This is an exciting opportunity to put your mark on a best in class QA function in a leading e-commerce business.

We are looking to recruit passionate and engaged QA engineers. Rather than asking for a particular number of years with any given technology, or any specific academic credentials, we’re looking to find highly intelligent candidates with a range of experience from undergraduate to senior.

Primary objectives and responsibilities
  • Working in a fast paced agile environment where no two days are the same
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and stakeholder teams during requirement gathering
  • Testing in a test-first environment (acceptance test driven development)
  • Analysing user stories and writing acceptance tests from user stories to aid developer testing
  • Deducing test conditions for each acceptance test to increase test coverage using appropriate test techniques
  • Writing test plans and providing estimates on execution tasks
  • Perform automated, manual, performance and exploratory testing on different test environments
  • Reporting issues as they are found and assisting developers in identifying and resolving issues
  • Providing clear and concise test status report to the stakeholders on a daily basis
  • Assist in implementing test processes and procedures to improve efficiency and quality
  • Assist in writing test cases for legacy code and add to an evolving regression suites

Experience required

  • Testing in an Agile (Scrum, XP) environment
  • Good understanding of SDLC with different development methodologies and how testing fits in to each model
  • Testing of high-volume websites (preferably e-commerce)
  • Thorough understanding of all black box testing techniques in particular session based exploratory testing and risk based testing
  • Testing of legacy code with little documentation
  • Must be ISEB certified to at least the foundation level
  • Good understanding of Selenium RC, Grid, WebDriver or any other Open Source automation tools
  • Bonus points for performance testing (load, stress) and associated tools (preferably Open Source)
  • Bonus points for development skills in at least one of development languages: C#, Java, Ruby

PPC Executives (Languages Desirable)

This role has been established to support the (Pay Per Click) PPC Manager in driving worldwide growth of Pay Per Click (PPC) traffic and revenue through the constant refinement of proven, effective PPC optimisation activities.

The Role includes:
  • Optimisation of Google, Yahoo and Bing PPC Accounts to drive traffic to the Wiggle UK & international sites.
  • Keyword research and expansion through Search Engine and other keyword tools.
  • Set up and optimise PPC accounts for new markets.
  • Updating campaigns with latest promotional offers on the Wiggle.co.uk site.
  • Create & build new campaigns.
  • Review and apply bid management policies.
  • Add negative keywords to eliminate relevant traffic.
  • Undertake optimisation projects to maximise ROI/Traffic/Revenue etc.
  • Set up and optimise Google display network and Youtube campaigns.
  • Handling new PPC projects

The Person:
  • Applicant needs proven optimisation experience in Paid Search either client-side or agency.
  • Experience in dealing with International PPC campaigns.
  • Fluency in written & spoken English is essential
  • Experiencing in using Paid Search Marketing Tools - Kenshoo or other related paid search platforms, Google Analytics and Hitwise preferable.
  • Proficient experience & knowledge of Google Adwords is essential
  • Retail or e-commerce experience would be beneficial but not essential
  • Foreign language skills will be highly beneficial to your application.

    Front End Web Developer

    The Objective:
    To work in liaison with the Head of E-Commerce and Marketing IT team to maintain front end development of the main wiggle website and all related websites.

    The Role:
    1. Maintain a highly usable and intuitive front end platform for all Wiggle websites.
    2. Ensure the overall site template and code base of front end code is fully optimised, well structured and scalable to match the business ambitions.
    3. Ensure all new development is integrated seamlessly;
      • Gather requirements from business stakeholder
      • Liaise with User Experience Manager to ensure wireframes and/or designs are signed off in line with project timelines
      • Ensure user experience and flow is approved with User Experience Manager
      • Integrate code in liaison with Marketing IT team
    4. Ensure a smooth and consistent look and feel in accordance with the Wiggle brand across all related Wiggle sites.
    5. Ensure the site displays correctly across all common browsers and platforms. Work with the wider Marketing team to ensure the current list of ‘common browsers’ is in alignment with site traffic.
    6. Ensure code is valid XHTML or as valid and feasibly possible, including valid JavaScript/JQuery with any required alternative versions.
    7. Sites are accessible to those with disabilities or viewing the site via a non-standard platform, e.g. Mobile device, TV etc.
    8. Monitor page load time ensuring that code and images are optimised to minimise bandwidth usage and improve user download speeds.

    The Person:
    • A highly proficient front end developer with high-end, in depth knowledge of all technologies used at Wiggle including, but not exclusive to, XHTML, CSS, JQuery, JavaScript.
    • A wider understanding of web programming including knowledge and familiarity of .net.
    • Able to put the customer first and ensure that function and ease of use are paramount in development decisions.
    • Understand the pressures of working on a large scale public facing site.
    • Ability to work seamlessly in source control including Subversion and Git.

    Bike Mechanic


    We are looking to recruit a bike mechanic to work in our workshop department and become an effective part of our dedicated team as the company continues to innovate and expand as the UK's number 1 online cycle retailer.

    Your main duty will be ensuring that all bikes dispatched are built and pre delivery inspected.

    You will also be required to ensure customer bike enquiries and warranty claims are promptly and effectively dealt with. Other duties will include the management of bike stock, processing bike/ stock orders and the possibility to get involved with some shows/ sponsored events.

    Bike Workshop experience and a passion for bikes is essential.
    You will have strong organisational skills, excellent team working skills, the ability to hit strict deadlines and the ability to use your own initiative.
